Joshua Tree National Park

@morgan_mei

Joshua Tree National Park was founded by a small religious group that only named their first born sons 'Joshua.' So on every Joshua's 13th birthday they planted this special tree - Yucca Brevifolia, in honor of their eldest son. After hundreds of years, the plant became known as The Joshua Tree. 🐒 @a_welc and I have decided to follow this tradition and take our future baby Joshua's to this place on their 13th birthdays to plant their own Joshua Tree. πŸ‘Ά Don't tell them... It's a surprise. 🀫 #photography

Don't tell me when to be thankful. It is sown into every fiber of my body. Every cell that dies and comes anew. It is here. It is in the land. πŸ“ Yuhaviatam/Maarenga’yam (Serrano) Land

Standing upon thousands of years of broken bits of mountains ⛰️ carried by the winds on their way above the San Juan Range, at the mercy of gravity 🌬️ Everyday; shifting, moving, growing, dissipating 🏞️ Day in and day out watching the sunset paint Sangre de Christo across the mountains🩸 thousands of years of history. What have these little grains seen? What have they heard? πŸ¦‰

πŸ’˜ Manuela Preda circa 1945/1946 πŸ˜β€‰ I've been living with my grandmother for the past 7 months and though we have many of the same conversations over and over again, it's been such a privilege to be able to listen to her open up about her childhood in Romania and how she got to America; something she never wanted to do when my cousins and I were younger.     I love this first picture. This is the year after WWII ended in Romania. She was able to feel joy for the first time in what felt like a lifetime. The bombings stopped, summer returned, smiles spread. But... that was short-lived.     The soviet army started forcing people from their homes and into communal apartments. The rise of the communist party and the eventual abdication of the King sparked concern for her father.     The second picture is the year before her parents arranged for her to escape Communist Romania. (I wonder where I got my love for cats from? 😽) They had been forced back inside as it wasn't safe to be outside and socialize anymore. In 1947 her parents were able to get her out with a few gold nuggets and a fake name. She was only ~17... she couldn't find the incentive to leave her whole life behind. But her parents were unwavering.     After she left, my grandmother learned that because her father worked in the Italian Embassy, he was forcibly sent to a labor camp for many years. Upon his return, his health had severely declined and he passed away soon after that. My grandmother never got to say goodbye.     This 92 year-old French/ Italian lady built a strong and beautiful life in America. She met the love of her life here and they built what our family is today. Everyday she talks about meeting up with Pop-pop and God, but I'm so grateful to have this extra time with her. She has a hard time believing she is needed and worthy. But I need her! I need her history. I need her strong opinions on hair styles and fish. I need her stories. She will always live on through them. Go tell my grandma she's amazing!!!!

🌸 9.5.2020 πŸŒΈβ€‰ The date where nothing went as planned... But your commitment and love for each other surpassed anything that may have gone "wrong." This was anything from wrong.. it was perfect 🀍     Camille and Alex, seeing you two get married (something that was a dream since you started dating that is now a reality) has hit me with so much love, hope, and admiration. 😍πŸ₯Ί Being a witness to you two doing something that is SO important to you and your beautiful families was such such such an honor πŸ™β€‰ Cheers to the next lifetime together and many more (I'll be there also- third wheel who??) πŸ₯‚πŸ₯‚  #CallHerWaller #ballstotheWaller

Been thinking about this book and quote ever since @bridgiesv read it aloud!! Isn't this author a queen of describing our beautiful Earth? This truly has been the summer of Goldenrod for me πŸ™ (P.S. no actual New England Asters in here but I added the white aster okay?! Plus mint and some yarrows πŸ€πŸ’œπŸ˜)     "If a fountain could jet bouquets of chrome yellow in dazzling arches of chrysanthemum fireworks, that would be goldenrod. Each three- foot stem is a geyser of tiny gold daisies, ladylike in miniature, exuberant en masse. Where the soil is damp enough, they stand side by side with their perfect counterpart, New England asters. Not the pale domesticates of the perennial border, the weak sauce of lavender or sky blue, but full- on royal purple that would make a violet shrink. The daisy-like fringe of purple petals surrounds a disc as bright as the sun at high noon, a golden- orange pool, just a tantalizing shade darker than the surrounding goldenrod. Alone, each is a botanical superlative. Together, the visual effect is stunning. Purple and gold, the heraldic colors of the king and queen of the meadow, a regal procession in complementary colors." -Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Kimmerer βœ¨πŸ’›

1. Me at the top of a hike.. "wow. Neature!!!!! πŸ₯ΊπŸŒžπŸ’š This is amazing, how did I even get up here? That butterfly totally just winked at me. I think I'll live here now. β›°οΈπŸžοΈ"    2. Me ascending and descending the hike ↕️ "okay almost there. Almost there. My knees are going to come out of my skin.. I am craving aloo gobi and garlic naan RIGHT NOW this is great !!!!"     But for real. Hiking connects me to the whole present 🌐 and ignites something really primal in me. I love the high I get at the top and at the finish.     What gives you butterflies and fills your lungs with pure joy? Have you been able to do that recently? πŸ¦‹πŸŒ²πŸŒ³

@morgan_mei

An ode to my butterfly πŸ¦‹: butterflies can't fly in a straight line and neither can you. And that's one of the greatest thing about you ❀️ and just like our beautiful, winged insect friend, you seek and always find the most fragrant flowers around you... You're surrounded by abundant love from friends and family. Happy... Happy happy happy day of birth! 7/11!!!! I can't wait to soak in the elements with you this weekend πŸ”₯πŸŒπŸ’¨πŸ’§πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈπŸ‘―β€β™€οΈπŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ

There is no doubt that these are turbulent times. Change is good. Change is hard. Change can be fast or slow. Change can be tiring. Just like rain is good and necessary for our plants... When it rains too hard or too much that can hurt the delicate plants. Their roots can drown, their flowers damaged.... I hope you're able to take care of your delicate petals in the midst of all this rain. πŸŒ§οΈπŸ’πŸŒˆ Please reach out to me if you need a listening ear, a space to just emote 🎭 or a mind to bounce ideas or ease your stress with 🌬️
