One of the coolest weather phenomena I've ever seen.

A giant waterspout appears to have hit landfall near downtown Cleveland.

Over the course of an hour this morning, I saw 6 waterspouts out over the lake. This may continue throughout the day if you want to try to see one!

More photos to come.

A few more from yesterday’s @ninaturnerohio rally at The Agora

U.S. Senator @berniesanders comes to Cleveland to support Ohio Congressional candidate Nina Turner at the @agoracle on Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Turner is running on a platform of creating job opportunities, labor rights advocacy, raising the minimum wage, and Medicare for all.

On Tuesday, Ohio voters will determine the winner of the 11th Congressional District race.

I just got home from Maine late on Sunday night.

Look who we had at our campground!

As we pulled our car into the site and started setting up our tents, I heard a rustle in the bushes and came about 50 feet from a female moose, otherwise known as a cow.

She quickly sprinted away before I grabbed the camera and I was completely bummed I missed the moment.

As @justnsmith11 and I continued setting up camp, I heard another rustle in the pines and we saw a male bull moose chasing the female through the bushes. At this point, I had the camera ready and we were about 50 feet away from the giant bull. He silently stared back at us before he ran back into the woods not to be seen again.

These amazing glimpses of nature are part of the reason I love photography and getting out into the back roads and woods. Maine has the largest population of moose in the lower 48 states (the most next to Alaska) but they are surprisingly rare and difficult to see.

A couple months ago, I visited @crosslens_ to listen to Cleveland mayoral candidate and community leader @bibbforcle speak about his focus and where he stands on different issues for the 2021 mayoral candidacy.

Bibb, with a background in business, banking and community leadership, had concrete plans to address some of our city’s problems and patiently listened to the audience who brought up their concerns and questions.

Here is where Justin stands on a myriad of issues that we face in the city of Cleveland.

Safe & Secure Neighborhoods

177 people were killed in Cleveland last year, our most violent year on record in recent memory. Cleveland needs a Mayor who will act quickly to address crime with evidence-based programs and create a model of policing that prioritizes justice and accountability with more effective enforcement of the Consent Decree to make our neighborhoods safer.

High-Quality Education

Our city’s future depends on the quality of our schools. We need to build on the Cleveland Plan to ensure there is a high-quality school in every neighborhood and develop a learning loss strategy to help kids catch up and be prepared for college, work and life in the 21st century.

Healthy Communities

The City allocates 1% of its budget to the Public Health Department. We must increase funding and develop strategies to quickly distribute vaccines, accelerate lead testing, increase access to healthy food and reduce maternal and infant mortality to keep residents safe and healthy.
Economic Relief & Recovery

Cleveland is expected to receive $541 million in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan. City Hall must immediately establish an Office of Economic Recovery to coordinate a long-term strategy for how to spend this money to lift people out of poverty, support small & minority-owned businesses and drive economic growth in every neighborhood.

Modern & Engaged City Hall

Residents shouldn’t have to drive, walk or take the bus to Lakeside Avenue to use basic city services. It’s time to modernize City Hall with new technologies, streamlined permit processes and online services. It’s time to open the doors of City Hall to everyone.

15 minutes of firefly activity at O'Neil Woods in the @summitmetroparks

2 four minute exposures for the barn and 14 shots at 30 seconds each for the fireflies, which were then combined in Photoshop.

Happy Pride Month to all of my LGBTQ friends!

I swear I've never seen this many rainbows in my life as I did this week while photographing near Mohican State Park.

As I drove towards my AirBnB outside of rural Mansfield, Ohio, I took a turn and ended up getting torrentially down-poured on before it suddenly stopped. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a high arching rainbow stretched across the green valley and over a cow pasture. I envisioned a shot of the pasture of cows staring at me with the rainbow above their heads but as soon as I pulled over to grab my camera and shoot the scene, it was gone. Damn!

As I disappointingly hopped back into my car and continued driving, within 5 minutes I saw another rainbow stretch across the sky, with a small, lone tree in the foreground. I jumped back out again, took 3 photos, and the rainbow started to fade.

I've been loving this stormy weather and hope we continue to get these crazy skies and sudden thunderstorms as they make any scene a lot more interesting.
