Dress for your actions, not your environment.

According to research sourced on Inc, studies have found style can impact your thinking. It can also affect both how others perceive you and how YOU perceive YOURSELF.

This is why it's important to make an effort even when you're at home on a laptop. Style includes everything from grooming, fragrance to accessories.

A button down white shirt is my go-to. What's yours?

Happy hump day! Last week we were talking about task anxiety & stressing out about something before you do it. Most of the time, itโ€™s not that deep - itโ€™s in our heads. Give yourself time but donโ€™t psych yourself out. What do you have to do this week that youโ€™ve been putting off๐Ÿ‘€

Some of you will be finalising your A-Level choices around this time.
A lot of you will have probably considered what the best A-Level combination is for Medicine, or what A-Levels you have to take to apply for Medicine.
Here's what I think about subject choices.

-- Don't pick any 'soft' A-Levels, stick to 'hard' subjects. This means sticking to the A-Levels that are historically proven to be more difficult but also more beneficial. These subjects include the sciences and math, languages, history and geography as well as others.

-- You will need Chemistry AND Biology at A-Level for the majority of Medical Schools (I think for them all).

-Some universities (I think some Oxbridge colleges) may have a preference for a third science/math on top of the Bio and Chem.

- You are not obligated to only do sciences for A-Levels. Medicine as a career can be viewed as a middle ground between humanities and sciences. Don't be afraid to let your A-Levels reflect that.

Since starting Medical School I can confidently say that my language A-Levels have benefited me a lot more than my Chemistry A-Level. We have done next to no Chemistry related work, but write essays monthly. Of course, you still have to study Chemistry.
Humanities help to improve your communication skills and problem solving skills, this is crucial when talking to patients and colleagues.

In my opinion, you should aim to have at least one humanities subject alongside Chemistry and Biology. Remember, the majority of applicants are studying the 3 sciences and math, or some combination of that. Studying a language or humanities subject helps you stand out that little bit more.
