It's time to talk about a significant Birthday. Turning 40 the day after Valentine's. I still remember my Dad's 40th and the party he had 25 years ago. It doesn't feel that long ago. I can't party like 'like it's 1999' as Price sang because it's 2021. In the UK we aren't allowed to see people from another household. Bar's and restaurant's are closed and travel is banned. So for now I'm so grateful for my spiritual practices. I will celebrate with a cup of cacao, a walk, no doubt a few presents. I'll still practice my daily meditation, inspiration through learning and movement. I imagine we will have some nice food, Hubster has it in hand. Then genuinely feeling deeply thankful for my health, my family, my friends, my teachers and work that I love (especially working with my Sister). All of the privileges and blessings that come with being born in the part of the world that I was. I'm don't feel anything hugely worrying about a number, it is what it is. I don't feel worried about ageing, as long as I can stay healthy. My aim reflecting on how far I have come is that firstly, I'm blessed to still be walking this earth. As they remind themselves daily in the Buddhist tradition 'today I could die'. Then I realise, I want to continue to do more for others.......I have a few ideas! For myself I want to continue to create experiences (lockdown life has highlighted how staying in the home TOO often doesn't fill my heart with joy) - it's all about balance and more nature! So that's my feelings about turning 40.......Sister you aren't too far behind me and from my view it's kinda the same as being 39.5 anyway. I DO hope to celebrate with my family and friends later in the year though!
Before all of the restriction we used to enjoy and teach in person yoga - that stopped. Breathwork learned at weekend retreats and in person courses - all on hold. We LOVED getting together on the full and new moon - that had to go. We all had to learn to adapt and for us that meant everything went online. We appreciated that our yoga practice could maintain is regularity and even got familiar with zoom to take our own classes online. We convinced teachers not to cancel their courses but to continue their teaching online and we applauded their ability to pivot. Ok, we still miss in person but there were a lot of upsides: 😍No babysitters required saving money 😍No travel required giving our environment a break 😍Saved time also on travel and parking and traffic 😍Saved money as online is often a lower cost due to no physical space being hired All these positives made us STEP UP and create The Holistic Health Circle. We love that our members don't have to push against the barriers of location, time, lack of freedom and even cost. Online has made self development so accessible. Like when we met online, last night for yoga and a new moon ceremony. We felt connection, support and it also felt amazing to move our body in a feminine way. 2021 lockdowns has gifted me time. Time without need to rush in the mornings. No, early morning walk to the bus stop with my eldest. No walk to school with my youngest. No ‘have you cleaned your teeth, brushed your hair, eaten your breakfast, made your bed?’ X 50! That’s been replaced with quiet time. Drinking @keithscacao , meditating, listening to beautiful songs, reading, practicing gratitude. Life feels slower, more connected, I can feel into my gratitude more deeply. If you aren’t rushing as much at the moment, I encourage you to delve into a practice that calls you ❤️
Hey Friend. How are your tribe of friendships coping through lockdown? Friendships are an essential part of a happy and full life. Having an intimate friendship can offer just as much support as a relationship with a partner — sometimes even more so. But navigating friendships can be difficult, especially as we age. It becomes harder to make new friends as we become adults, and our busy schedules can sometimes leave little time to grow and nurture these types of relationships. Now with the added pressure of not seeing our friends in person, we nay have noticed some friendships fall away whilst others unexpectedly thrive & grow. Lunar liquid, ever heard of it? You can really harness the energy of a full moon by placing your crystals, some water and even fruit under the light of the moon. Moonlight is just reflected sunlight but has the softness of feminine energy as opposed to the strength of daylight sunshine. It helps us to balance the feminine and masculine energies we all have within us.
Nearly 40 years old and reflecting. It’s taken a while to understand who I really am and in honesty it’s still a work in progress. I mean I’ve always known but somewhere along the way you learn: .How to fit in .How to be logical instead of intuitive .How to not shine too bright .Not be too much .Not to make friends with too many strangers, that’s weird behaviour .Stop singing because ‘you have an awful voice’ .Not answer back because that’s naughty .Stop sharing your ideas because they are too crazy and you have too many All of those things are just opinions and opinions don’t need to change you or stop you. I’ve realised that my soul can speak louder than my logical mind and thank god I know how to listen now. Do you listen to your soul speak?
Devotion to practice. I've been experimenting with replacing the word discipline to devotion. It has much more of a yin energy to it. When I apply it to my passions I notice it gives more of a ' I want to ' rather than 'I need to or I have to ' vibe. Devoting myself to my daily yoga & pranayama practice is keeping me grounded & balanced during these turbulent. Honestly, there is some resistance to getting on the mat in the 1st place, but I always finish feeling capable & in control. I can finally run without feeling like I'm going to hyperventilate or have a panic attack!!! Hoorah! I've always envied those joggers that bounce along freely running, with controlled breathing, in easy conversation with a friend. As soon as my feet hit the pavement my heart would heavily pound & I’d feel the adrenaline course through my veins. I’d literally feel like I was running for my life rather than improving my health. At the time I was suffering from severe anxiety - my fight or flight nervous system was OVERLY dominant & running added another layer of stress that my body couldn't cope with. If you suffer from anxiety, then adrenal stimulating exercises like HIIT & running could be aggravating your condition rather than alleviating it. I had to find balance with my nervous system by leaning into movement that didn’t OVER stimulate my fight or flight nervous system but bought it into balance such as Dance Hatha yoga Swimming Qi Gong Tai chi I’m not saying I can compete with Mo Farrah, but these days I find a gentle jog helps to clear my head & raise my endorphins. Who knows, maybe I’ll make that 5 k target one day & enjoy it! Over in our membership we have been focussing on the danish art of hygge this winter at it promotes wellbeing and creates a feel of togetherness..even with social distancing! It's my Birthday (almost) & a New Moon. Lucky me!!!! New moon are an ideal time to start afresh & set new intentions for the lunar cycle (29 day period). This new moon sits in the sign of Sagittarius & is an auspicious time to set goals around travel & study. I'll be using the energy of this moon to plan ahead for the year & celebrate with the ladies that join our monthly moon ceremony's. We have opened up our online ceremony for you to join us. Looking for escape? It doesn't feel like we can plan a break away at the moment. This has left me feeling trapped. My whole life I seem to have mastered the art of getting away & exploring my external environment. Which I found so much joy in. But lately, with little option on places to go, I've had to meet the present moment & face it. And not every moment has been pretty or comfortable. And that's okay & a normal part of the human experience. In fact I realised being still, sitting with my emotions & choosing to work with them helps me go through them in a more manageable way. Just like riding a wave, there's a peak, then it falls away & makes space for new feelings, thoughts & experiences. I feel more free & as I'm not stuck or running from the moment. I've dealt with it. As a nature lover, connecting with the lunar cycles has offered dedicated time to face some shadows & work with my emotions on a deeper level. When the moon is full, I bask in her protective light & feel the fullness of what's in me. I face it & release it. Ready for the next phase. Breath and death. The spelling may be close but that's where the similarities end. We start and end life with it but what about all the time in between? Are we living & breathing or have we forgotten about this life force injecting us & instead just surviving? Many of us have forgotten how to breathe properly and fully and miss out on a deeper connection with life. Who wants to live and feel alive? Not just be alive and survive? Anxiety relief. ❌Ignoring it and working more didn’t help ❌Alcohol relaxed short term and made it worse the next day ❌ Medication wasn’t our answer ❌ Comfort food aka binge eating had undesirable results ❌ Even cardio increased the stress Here’s what did work: ✅ Slowing down, yeah we know we didn’t want to hear it either! ✅ Yoga, GENTLE yoga not your hot yoga or fast flow, yep totally frustrating ✅ Breathing, say what? Yep, consciously breathing ✅ Connecting with the moon and nature’s natural cycles with other women ✅ Letting go of self judgement, too high expectations, resentment, anger....we could go on ✅ Nutrition from a place of love and kindness and treating our body with the respect she deserved ✅ Nature...getting out in it a lot.
