I feel a little weird "celebrating" this holiday right after Juneteenth (which I did not get the day off) so here is just a random pic of our submission to National Geographic #Truly Edition that has nothing to do with either holiday 💕✌

Pilates shoulder Bridge on the reformer 💗
.
Observations:
-Wow that second side with my right leg extended was hard in comparison to the first.
-R hamstring feels "tight" but I'm prettttty sure it just feels that way and is actually overlengthened *due to the quad and hip flexor being tight*.👀 say what??
.
This is important guys. Overlengthened muscles can feel like a "tightness" because they are stretched but WEAK and TAUT. So they are kind of tense but not necessarily "tight". Think of a super old hair tie that over time that stretches out and becomes less elastic slowly and eventually breaks...
.
Muscles work in groups. A movement has at least one agonist (the prime mover) and an antagonist (the oppositional force that resists the move and creates inner stability). It's #physics yall. Every force has an equal/opposite reaction. #sirissacnewton
.
STOP assuming that muscles are "tight" and try to learn the origin of the issue (with help from a professional ideally). Sometimes you should be strengthening the antagonist rather than just stretching the agonist. Strengthening an antagonist increases the agonist muscle's elasticity to relieve that taut-ness.
.
So to increase ROM in my R hamstring I have to STRENGTHEN IT (NOT overstretch) and instead stretch the antagonist, i.e. the quad & hip flexor.
.
I see people complaining about tight hamstrings all the time but they're often overlengthened and don't realize. This is a common issue in people with low back pain because it throws off your gait after awhile and hurts your back.
.
Think about it: you walk forward, not backwards ... wtf would your hamstrings be tighter than your quads when you use the FRONT of your body so much more often (walking, sitting). It doesn't even make sense on its face. PHYSICS, YALL. well, #physiology technically.
.
Hope this helps 💗

Meet my new 7 foot friend, the Allegro

Found a good deal on this used machine nearby and had to jump on it. Thankfully it doubles as a couch bc I no longer have room for a couch 🙃 #ohwell #ilivealoneanyway
 .
🌟Seated half roll-down + arms series
🌟Prone pulling straps back extension series
🌟Legs in straps series
.
The first two are great for my scoliosis. Trunk integration + scapular stability is a WINNING COMBO tbh 👌 The last one is great for hip mobility.
.
Videos are sped up 2x
